Yesterday I began work at 9am and wrapped on a film this morning at 2:00am. Which is partially why I’m only getting to post this evening. In between I left work a little early and headed to an audition for a commercial. I was supposed to be a “young millennial mom”. And I think that even though I can look like one all by myself in a headshot, I don’t think they were anticipating that when they brought in the little curly haired girl that we would look more like sisters than Mother and daughter. Even the auditioner laughed a little bit when he said to the 8 year old, “Okay, this is Brynn, she’s going to be your Mom in this scene.” Oh well, you can’t win them all!
Right after that I met with my friend Alex who is directing his first film. I met the crew and fellow actor, Colin, a co-writer on the script. It was a colorful bunch. Literally our costumer had purple hair. Waylin was our Director of Photography, and Adam and Marina worked sound. We really took the time to work on the scene and our characters, scout locations, and get to know each other. It was FREEZING. When we had to do these walking takes outside on Broadway outside the Mayan Theater the wind was unforgiving. Fortunately I had a blanket in between takes. The night was almost a blur and before I knew it was 2am. I got dropped off at my apartment and wearily climbed the cement staircase. I put down my bags in the dark as not to wake my slumbering prince. I’d find out later he was waiting up for me. I crept into the downstairs bathroom, undressed, and looked at my naked, tired body and my wind swept hair spiraling up to the ceiling. I put on my headphones and listened to the next three songs on “Black Holes and Revelations”, “Map of the Problematique”, “Soldier’s Poem” and “Invincible”. Afterward I crawled into bed and melted into sleep like a sinking ship.
