Day 99: Dreams of Ballet

I took an amazing ballet class at The Washington Ballet taught by the phenomenal Aaron Jackson. The class consisted of those who have never done ballet before to prima ballerinas. The age and experience disparity of the class spoke to the quality of the instructor. I never felt out of my depths even though I knew I would never be a professional ballerina. I miss the live accompanist, moving across the floor, the adagios, yes the adagios, everything. I’m no longer living in D.C. but I did learn a lot. I’m still looking for a similar ballet class in Denver. Hopefully I will find one. In the meantime I’ll do the New York Ballet YouTube warm ups naked in my apartment. Make it work ladies!

Day 95-97: Mermaids!

What little girl doesn’t like Mermaids? They are these mythical creatures that live under the water, half fish, half woman. Outside of Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” I was most fascinated by the mermaids from “Hook” starring the late Robin Williams. From when I was little up until now when I watch this movie, a all time favorite,  I remember the scene where Peter falls into the water and these beautiful green, purple, and red haired mermaids saved him by kissing him and blowing bubbles into his mouth. They glowed and had shimmering skin. They were as colorful as any tropical fish you’d see on a coral reef or in a fish tank at a Japanese restaurant. In such a way you can’t stop looking at them, you’re mesmerized. I was so enchanted by this image. Of course I wouldn’t imagine mermaids wore much clothing, as I believe clam shell bras would be cumbersome and difficult to swim in and since they would be underwater, sagging wouldn’t be an issue. So I used my colored pencils to start sketching.

“A Love for Those Who Need It”

Have you heard of this amazing site called 8tracks?!?! It’s the best. It’s a community of people who create their own playlists. You can search music based on your favorite artists, genre, or your mood. You can also create your own playlist! I’ve been dancing naked to this track, “A Love for Those Who Need It”. Have a listen!

Day 92-94: Lana Del Rey, Ultraviolence

A friend requested this album for me to dance naked to. I’d only known a few songs from this artist and intimately ended up loving this album. I really dig her vibe, timeless vintage style, and music composition. Dancing naked to female artists like her is very liberating and freeing. I feel more “in my skin” when I listened to this album.

Day 87: Summertime!

I adore the sun! I’m like Superman in that I need need vitamin D. My spirits are lifted by sunshine on my face and there’s a new energy to my dancing naked sessions. Especially in Colorado where the sun is out most days. My little illustration is inspired by that iconic advertisement for Coppertone sunblock. I think it’s so adorable and the beach girl showing a little bum makes me giggle!

Day 86: “Cake By The Ocean”

I am so in love with this hot song “Cake By The Ocean” by DNCE. It is a perfect dancing naked song along with the rest of the album. I was a little sad there were only four songs but it was fantastic for a session! Highly recommend!

Day 85: Feet

Sometimes I feel a little self conscious about my feet, especially because a pedicure is not always in the budget. It’s summer time and since the sun is out the toes must come out too! So I gathered my foot scrubber, lotion, polish, and got to work. With little effort I gave myself a mini pedi and with a little pink on my nails I was ready for sandal weather!

Day 79-81: Hair Series

I’ve become a little obsessed with hair and texture in my illustrations. I feel like hair can be this magical force in my imagination. And although my hair will probably never be rainbow colored or a surf board but  I can dream, can’t I?
